The meaning of home varies from person to person, between social groups, and across cultures. Even more, the home has taken on yet another meaning during the pandemic. The concept of home has been largely reevaluated through prolonged quarantines, housing insecurity, and the emerging ubiquity of the home office. Previously the domain of freelancers and entrepreneurs, working from home–and spending Friday nights in–is now a large part of our daily lives. So we ask, what does a home/house mean to you? And how has its meaning evolved? How can we visualize its multidimensional symbolic and human meanings? This is what we’re hoping to uncover and examine in this issue through the lens of our community.
