Orsolya Luca - 12 months
Orsolya Luca is a Hungarian born photographer and visual artist, now based in London, UK. At age 19, she immigrated to Canada, yet eventually moved back to Budapest, and later to London to study Fashion Photographer at the University of the Arts London. Her personal style is inspired by her daily movements through streets, mundane scenarios, and everyday people and objects. This subconscious recognition of the ordinary, often leads to photographs of aesthetic synchronicity. As her photographs are triggered by empathy, feelings, patterns and capturing colours, her editing process attempts to think critically of her subjects and the society they find themselves in. Her visual language can be described as using social landscape, street photography, and pseudo-reportage with a hint of realism or idealism.
Her series 12 months documents her personal perception of our current state of living during the pandemic. The 30 images below are a broad selection from thousands of images she took in the past 12 months. This selection’s muddled aesthetics juxtaposes our human responses–of masks and social distancing–to unaffected architecture and natural landscapes. Through her photographs, we are forced to reckon with what feels like a warped reality, observing how the world has at once seemingly changed, and entirely stayed the same.
