Jenny McClary and Allie Leepson - Max Fights
Jenny + Allie (Jenny McClary and Allie Leepson) are a wife-and-wife photography team whose photography draws from their personal experiences lacking representation. Their crisp 120 mm images bring in to focus the stories of queer people in ways that highlight the beauty found within their strength and happiness. In the series below, Jenny + Allie photograph Max Adler in anticipation of Out Box’s launch–a boxing club created by Max for LGTBQ+ people in New York City. Having faced numerous challenges as a trans person in everyday gyms, Max, a boxer and trans advocate, wanted to create a safe space for other people like himself–one that takes LGBTQ+ people out of the shadows by honing in on their strength through training that’s both fun and safe. Max notes,
I started Outbox to give trans and gender non-confirming folks a comfortable place to train and learn boxing. Finding a gym, let alone a coach, is really scary for a lot of trans people. I wanted to get rid of that obstacle and make sports and fitness more accessible.
As Jenny + Allie continue to share queer, humanizing stories, Max is quite literally an image of resilience as he leads us towards a future of inclusivity in sport regardless of gender expression, sexuality, or skill level.
