Hansae Lee- Stranger in Seoul
Hansae Lee is a street and landscape photographer from Seoul, South Korea. Growing up in Singapore, his fascination with modern architecture and minimalism sparked his love of photography. Over the years he’s developed a passion for exploring both urban and natural environments. Hansae has been shooting images for six years and is currently based in Providence, RI, pursuing a degree in philosophy and economics.
His project Stranger in Seoul is about his journey of rediscovering his hometown through photography. Although Hansae was born in South Korea, he was raised in Singapore. After graduating high school in 2020, he was thrown back to Seoul because he didn’t have a visa to stay in Singapore, nor was he able to start university due to the pandemic. Now, as the pandemic lightens, and he heads off to university, his time in Korea is coming to an end. All the photographs in this collection were taken between October 2020 and April 2021: seven months, which for Hansae, represents a period of great exploration and personal growth as a photographer.
