Voices of Pride - Naomi Davison and Saffron Liberty
Based between London and Brighton, photographer Naomi Davison alongside her girlfriend Saffron Liberty, celebrate pride in an unquestioned, liberated photo series. Here, Naomi and Saffron explore notions of pride among members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Brighton. The handwritten, almost yearbook-like composition of the central question, “What does pride mean to you?” is the spine of their series. Accompanied by each individuals’ answers, the photo series allows the queer community and their voices to speak their existence. The documented visibility punctuated by powerful anecdotes serve as a reminder to all of why pride is so invaluable as it captures what Naomi and Saffron refer to as “an essence of what it is to identify as LGTBQIA+ today. Viewed through a queer gaze and shot on film, each portrait is equal parts emblematic and intimate.
