Yannis Konstantinos - encounters (in the cave of the same)
The work “encounters (in the cave of the same)” deals with the ongoing narcissification of individuals in society and the resulting detachment from the inexplicable, the Other. In “Agony of Eros” philosopher Byung-Chul Han says in a world of fetishized individualism and technologically mediated social interaction, it is the Other that is destroyed, not the self. We not only develop a need to compare ourselves to the Other, we also want to take it and make it our own. There is no space left for accepting unexplainable things for what they are and through that Han argues that our perception of love and desire is in danger more than ever. Based on the Han’s essay “encounters (in the cave of the same) examines the edge of the place where the Other detaches itself.
