Valerio Polici - Ergo Sum
Ergo Sum is a project of photographs and videos made between Europe and Argentina with different graffiti crews in the bowels of cities. I did graffiti myself for most of my youth and became a photographer, self-taught, with the purpose of having a document about something that represented freedom and imprisonment together.
The anger, the adrenaline, the challenge to authority and one's limits, standing on the margins and feeling the exclusivity, theatrical, dirty, subterranean environments, offer you a very powerful antidote to your normal life, whatever your story is.
By privileging the moment before the graffiti is made, a dramaturgical representation of a single moment repeated obsessively for six years takes shape.
A mental odyssey through the intestinal spaces of the metropolis in search of that adventure that will never come because all possible scenarios have already been drawn. This is the waltz of existential hiding.
