Euan Harness - Dépanneur
The roads in Montreal are laid out in stiff North American blocks. No curves. No mystery. Once you’re on a road you can see down it to the ends of the earth. The only excitement comes when you reach a corner. So it’s a neat bit of urban poetry that most of the city's Déppaneurs are on the corners as well. Montreal's answer to the corner shops, Bodegas or milk bars, these unassuming shops are more than just convenience stores; they are the pulse of their neighbourhoods, quietly sustaining the city with late-night essentials, cheap beer, and a certain scrappy charm. This series of photographs captures the eclectic and often-overlooked world of Montreal’s Dépanneurs—celebrating their role as an integral, if underappreciated, part of the city’s urban fabric.
